What we do...

SCCA's supports both Pro and Club racing. Our North Carolina Region focuses on Club racing. Club racing is amateur motorsports. There are two categories: Regional and National. Competition is fierce at both levels.

The national drivers meet in September each year to compete at SCCA's Valvoline Runoffs®. Most classes except IT (Improved Touring) and a few other region specific classes are eligible for this big event. The regional drivers compete for points throughout the year and end each season with a big end-of-season invitational race to determine the region's class champions. Since 1996 Road Atlanta has hosted the American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) which is designed to attract all non-national classes to compete after their own regional winners have been decided. This is a very exciting event which usually adds a night enduro to the excitement.

SCCA's Club Racing host 235 Regional events, along with approximately 50 Driving Schools and another 65 National races. SCCA has 50,000+ members with more than 49 percent involved on the amateur level, either as drivers, crew, workers or officials. More than 8,000 SCCA members hold National and Regional competition licenses allowing them to compete.

Getting Started...

If you would like to be a racer, crew, worker, or official, SCCA can offer it all to you. Here's a brief explanation of the different roles carried out during a race week-end. Match your interests to one or more areas and contact us.  Follow this link to a membership form. You can also check out the SCCA home page for additional information as well.

Workers & Officials Programs

Getting involved as a worker or official is as easy as going to a local event and volunteering to help. Workers are issued a license just like the competition drivers, and can work their way up through the four levels of licenses by participating at different events and gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to hold a national specialty license. SCCA licensed workers help staff most of the motorsport events held in the United States in one capacity or another. Please check out our workers page for additional info on each of the worker specialties.

Driving Schools then Racing

Amateur Club racers start by completing two SCCA Driving Schools. After being signed-off, you are now ready to compete in Regional races. SCCA also offers a list of commercial driving/racing schools which are SCCA-accredited. The first two races you must place an "X" on your car to let other drivers know you are beginner.
